Ice’s Jesse Ismond Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jesse Ismond of the Kootenay Ice is the CHL Player of the Week with seven points in three games scoring three goals and four assists along with a plus-minus rating of plus-6 to help lead the Ice to a WHL Championship title in five games over the Portland Winterhawks.

After recording an assist in a 3-2 overtime win in Game three of the series last Tuesday night, Ismond had his best game of the season with four points scoring two goals and adding two assists as first star of a 5-4 overtime win in Game four last Wednesday night. He also scored a goal and an assist as part of the 4-1 win in Game five of the series on Friday night to give the Ice their first Ed Chynoweth Cup victory since 2002. The Ice will now compete in the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup and will face the OHL Champion Owen Sound Attack on Saturday night.

Ismond, a 20-year-old from Kindersley, SK, is playing in his third full WHL season with the Ice and finished the 2011 WHL Playoffs with 16 points in 17 games after scoring 49 points in 72 regular season games.

Also considered for the award this week was Stanislav Galiev of the QMJHL Champion Saint John Sea Dogs who scored a goal with six assists for seven points in four games of the QMJHL Finals. In the OHL, rookie Jarrod Maidens of the Owen Sound Attack scored three goals in three games including the overtime-winner in Game seven of the OHL Championship Series.
