Engelage wins the Goalie honors

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Andrew Engelage of the Windsor Spitfires is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending May 3. Engelage won both games in goal for the Spitfires posting a goals-against-average of 2.00 with a .922 save percentage.

Engelage and the Spitfires opened the Rogers OHL Championship Series Wednesday night in Windsor against the Brampton Battalion. He made 22 saves including 12 in the first period to grab the win in a 10-1 victory in favour of the Spitfires. Carrying a 1-0 series lead into Brampton Friday night, Engelage made 25 saves including 15 in the second period to preserve the 5-3 win. The win was Engelage’s fifth straight victory and helped the Spitfires grab a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-seven final for the J. Ross Robertson Cup.

Engelage, a 20-year-old native of Oshawa, Ontario, is playing his overage season with the Spitfires in his third year with the club. In 18 playoff games he has posted a 3.09 goals-against-average and .898 save percentage with 12 wins. This season Engelage set a new OHL single season record for wins with 46. He was named recipient of this award earlier in the year for the week ending September 28.

Also considered this week was Mark Guggenberger of the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets. Guggenberger, who won the award last week, allowed just seven goals on 75 shots while posting a perfect 3-0-0-0 record including two wins in the opening two games of the WHL Championship Series against the Calgary Hitmen. Timo Pielmeier of the Shawinigan Cataractes was also considered for posting a goals-against-average of 2.50 with a .925 save percentage in two games with one victory. The Cataractes are currently tied 1-1 with the Drummondville Voltiegeurs in the QMJHL Championship Series.
