A Family Rivalry Is Born

The Western College Hockey Blog is reporting tonight that Belle Tire forward Austin Czarnik has committed to Michigan State for the fall of 2011. With the Belle Tire U-16 Team last year he had 7 goals and 14 assists in 31 contests. At the Select 16, he had seven goals and two assists in five contests. He was selected for the Five Nations Tournament that takes place August 19th through August 24th in Slovakia. He has also earned a spot on the National Team Development Program Under 17 Team also.

His cousin is Robbie Czarnik who will be a freshman at Michigan this season. With the NTDP last season Robbie had 15 goals for a total of 30 points in 49 contests. At the Under 18 tournament in April he had three goals and five assists in 8 contes. He was also a third round selection of the Los Angeles Kings this summer.

The San Jose Sharks have come to terms with Timo Pielmeier of the Shawinigan Cataractes and Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants who are both goalies. Pielmeier had a 23-26 record with a 2.94GAA and a .911SV% with the St. John's Fog Devils last season. He was traded this summer to Shawinigan. Sexsmith had a 43-11-6 record with a 1.89GAA and a .911SV%. He could be one of the backstoppers for Team Canada at the World Junior Championships this winter.

Some sad news to end with. Former Green Mountain Glades (EJHL) forward Ben Kinson has passed away due to injuries he suffered in a car accident. Last year he had a goal and three assists in 37 matches. This upcoming season, he was headed to Plymouth State College a Division III program. My Thoughs and Prayers go out to his family.

That's My Take
