Michigan Loses Max Pacioretty

Max Pacioretty a former Sioux City Musketeers and now a former Michigan Wolverine has signed with the Montreal Canadiens. He was selected 24th overall in the 2007 Entry Draft. With the Wolverines last season he had 15 goals and 24 assists in 37 games. He should be with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL this year.

It's a big blow to the Wolverines as he was suppose to be one of the main guys this year. They lost Kevin Porter and Chad Kolarik to graduation. They have other players that can fill his role but that puts more responsibilities on the incoming freshman class. They only have two incoming freshman forwards and no one from the 2009 class that could come this season. I am sure they will find someone in a Junior A league. I wander if we will see a player jump ship like Patrick Wiercioch did last week.

Last night I mentioned that Maine has three incoming Swedish recruits, now it's two recruits. The Portland Press Herald is reporting that Pontus Hansson won't be eligible until next season. He's a 20 year old, so I am unsure where he will play next season to keep his eligibility. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he turns pro in Sweden. Maine was looking to have two freshman to guard the pipes. The other incoming freshman goalie is Scott Darling who played for the Indiana Ice of the USHL last year. The other goalie on Maine's roster is junior Dave Wilson.

That's My Take
