Northeastern Gets a Commitment from Anders Franzon

The Northeastern Huskies of Hockey East got a commitment from defenseman Anders Franzon yesterday for the 2009-2010 season. He played with Västerås of the SuperElit League. He had a goal and six assists last year.

Before heading to Northeastern, he will play for the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League next season. The Nanaimo Daily News did a story on him in May which I find interesting.

He not Swedish but its a trend for NCAA schools to look for talent over seas. Maine has three Swedish players coming in this season. St. Cloud State tried to get Swiss forward Luca Cunti to play last year but he was ruled ineligible. He's Tampa's 3rd round pick in 2007. Carl Hagelin who's also from Sweden plays for Michigan.

In other BCHL news, former Victoria Grizzlies' forward Jamie Benn has signed with the Dallas Stars. He played with the Kelowna Rockets last season where he had 33 goals and 32 assists in 51 games. Benn will be back with the Rockets next season.

That's My Take
