OHL News and Notes

I found this story in my in-box tonight. I did see Andrew Fournier heading to the Florida Everglades of the ECHL. What's interesting is the Everglades and the Plymouth Whalers are owned by the same person. There were three former Whalers on the Everglade roster last year.

Whenever I see this name it brings back the 2007 Memorial Cup, when he scored the game winner against the Maineiacs in overtime in pool play. The Whalers then defeated the Maineiacs a couple of nights later in the tie breaker game to send Lewiston home. There's no relation between us.

The Noof forum which is an OHL fan forum has a thread that lists all the 1st rounders that I have signed. So far six first rounder have signed. That total should start climbing with training camps starting in a month or so. Looking at that list, I say 18 of the 20 first rounders to be signed. Right now, Cam Fowler and Brandon Saad not to sign this year. A commentator on my blog said yesterday that Saad has committed to the Spirit. Next year though he will be in the NAHL.

Leigh Salters and Denis Hollenstein will start the season in the press box this season for the Guelph Storm. Salters is going to be out until December and Hollenstein for the entire season. Salters had 10 goals, 11 assists, and 92 penalty minutes in 59 games last year. He's an undrafted player. Hollenstein had five goals and four assists last year in 37 contests.

The cause of Mickey Renaud's death was released yesterday. It was due to natural causes from his heart condition. He had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He passed away on February 18th. This Youtube channel has tributes to Renaud and the ceremony when the Windsor Spitfires returned to the ice.

These heart conditions are popping up one too many times. David Carle who played for Shattuck St. Mary's last year and is headed to Denver University had to retire because doctors found a heart condition.

That's My Take
