Begert to join Express teammate Straight at Boston College

Press Release

Coquitlam Express defenceman Mark Begert has accepted a scholarship to play for the Boston College Eagles and will forego his three remaining years of BCHL eligibility to join the NCAA ranks.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound West Vancouver product played all 60 regular-season games for Coquitlam this year plus four more in the playoffs. He tallied four goals and seven assists on the campaign.

At Boston College, Begert will be joined by Express teammate Destry Straight who committed to the Eagles program in late November. BC has one of the highest-profile hockey programs in the NCAA having won a national championship in 2010 and taking a number-one seed into this year's tournament before being upset by Colorado College in the opening round.

Former Penticton Vees defenceman and San Jose Sharks draft pick Isaac MacLeod is the only BCHL alum on the current Eagles roster.

Begert was named listed as a BCHL Academic All-Star this season and becomes the eighth Express player to earn a scholarship in the 2010-11 campaign.
