Button Signed to Entry-level Contract

Press Release

BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has signed defenseman Ryan Button to an entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Button had 5-30=35 totals and 49 PIM in 69 WHL games this season with the Seattle Thunderbirds and Prince Albert Raiders. He was traded from Prince Albert to Seattle on January 10, 2011 in exchange for Charles Wells and a first round pick in the 2011 CHL Import Draft. The 20-year-old ends his junior career with 16-97=113 totals and 168 PIM in 265 games.

He joined the Providence Bruins on an Amateur Tryout Agreement on March 29, 2011 and appeared in seven games with the P-Bruins, registering one assist.

A 6’1”, 190-lb native of Edmonton, Alberta, Button was drafted by the Bruins in the third round (86th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Four of the Bruins five picks from the 2009 draft have now signed professional contracts (Button, Jordan Caron, Lane MacDermid, and Tyler Randell), while the fifth pick from ’09 – Ben Sexton – will enter his sophomore year at Clarkson University this fall.
