Dryden's Daniel Morin named Pizza Hut player of the week

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that recently signed Dryden Ice Dogs defenceman Daniel Morin has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the time frame running Dec. 19-25.

The 18-year-old product of nearby Ignace, Ont., made a definite impression in his Dryden debut last week by recording a total of six points in his first two games in an Ice Dogs’ uniform.

Morin began by notching the game-winner and dishing out three assists in his initial SIJHL contest Tuesday, leading Dryden to a 10-3 victory over Iron Range. He followed that up the next night by setting up two more tallies, including the eventual winner, as the Ice Dogs blanked Sioux Lookout 5-0.

To recognize his on-ice efforts, Morin will be presented with a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Blake Boaz, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Wilson Housley, (F) Wisconsin Wilderness; Cody Stettin (F) Duluth Clydesdales; Brett Wur, (F) Sioux Lookout Flyers and Casey Skolnik (F) Iron Range Iron Heads. The Thunder Bay North Stars did not play last week, thus had no nominee.

With only two SIJHL games on tap to wrap-up 2011, the Pizza Hut player of the week award returns Monday, Jan. 9.

At the conclusion of the 2011-12 regular season the top performer in the SIJHL will be presented with the Pizza Hut player of the year award.
