PAIR OF RAIDERS CONFIRM COMMITMENTS

Press Release

Georgetown Raiders defenceman Matt Chiarantano and goaltender Steven Racine have both confirmed NCAA Division I scholarships beginning with the 2012-13 season.

Second-year Raider rearguard Matt Chiarantano (pictured - photo credit: Craig Campbell/HHOF) has confirmed he will join the Niagara University Purple Eagles of Atlantic Hockey next season. Playing in his fourth OJHL season, the 5'10", 190 lbs. native of Bolton, Ontario, made the jump to junior hockey as a 16-year old rookie with the Orangeville Crushers in 2008-09. The following year, after notching two assists in six games for Orangeville, he was dealt to the Aurora Tigers, where he would spend the next season and a half, recording his first OJHL goal and finishing second in scoring among their defencemen in 2009-10. Last year Chiarantano was traded to Georgetown after only 13 games in Aurora and in November was a member of Team Canada East that brought home the silver medal from Penticton, B.C. Thus far this season, the veteran leads all Raider d-men with 19 assists and 23 points in 29 games played.

One of the newer members of the Raiders club, netminder Steven Racine has confirmed he will join the University of Michigan Wolverines of the CCHA next season. Racine, a native of Williamsville, New York, joined the Raiders in late November and has played five games thus far, picking up five consecutive victories for the surging club. He has allowed only nine goals in those five games, including a 26-save, 5-0 shutout over Brampton in his first OJHL game and a 27-save 2-1 first place showdown victory over division-rival Oakville going into the Christmas break.

Congratulations to Matt and Steven and best of luck to both as they continue their hockey and academic careers!
