NORTH PULLS OUT SHOOTOUT VICTORY

Press Release

The OJHL North Division All-Stars pulled out a 3-2 shootout victory over the CCHL Yzerman Division All-Stars in game four of the Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Smiths Falls, Ontario.

It took until late in the 1st period before the scoreless game was broken when Newmarket Hurricanes forward Daniel Leavans opened the scoring for the OJHL North. Hurricanes netminder Jason Pucciarelli was solid between the pipes for the squad. The 2nd period was a little more wide-open with the CCHL Yzerman's scoring back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead. The 2nd CCHL goal was followed up in short order with Jamie Kendra of the Markham Waxers tying the game at two.

After 40 minutes of play, the game remained 2-2 and headed to the second shootout of the day. With a high-powered offence, the OJHL North would score on three of four shootout attempts to win the game. Jeff DiNallo of the Newmarket Hurricanes potted the first goal and was followed up by a beautiful goal, ala Peter Forsberg, off the stick of Stouffville Spirit sniper Drake Caggiula. After Christian Finch, also of the Spirit, missed the net, the CCHL scored their second goal of the shootout and it was headed to sudden death. Bowman Webster of the Hurricanes gave the OJHL North a 3-2 lead and Pucciarelli made the save to earn the first game victory.
