Wildcats hire Roger Shannon to Assistant GM and Director of Scouting

The Moncton Wildcats are proud to announce the hiring of the new Assistant GM and Director of Scouting Roger Shannon. Shannon brings a wealth of experience to the position, having just spent the 2011/2012 season as the Assistant GM and Director of Atlantic Scouting with the Shawinigan Cataracts and helping them capture the 2012 Memorial Cup.

Shannon is also the General Manager of the UNB Varsity Reds, winning three national titles during his 12 seasons at the Fredericton school. Shannon is also president of the V-Reds prospects, a youth development program that attracts most of Atlantic Canada’s best young players. Shannon spent 4 seasons as both General Manager and Regional Scout with the Lewiston Maineiacs in the QMJHL.

During the day, Roger serves as the Manager of 911 for the City of Fredericton, having served 23 years in the public safety business, as an RCMP officer and member of the Fredericton Police Force. Roger is married to Jodie, they have two children, Zachary (19) and Elizabeth (15). Zachary was a member of the Woodstock Slammers Championship Team this past season after having spent two seasons in the QMJHL.

“This is a very exciting time for me and my family,” Said Shannon “to be so close to home finally, and with an organization like Moncton, a committed group that wants to do things the right way and build competitive teams always, with a real goal of winning a Memorial Cup.”

“We were really impressed with the quality of the applicants for this position.” Said Danny Flynn, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations “We are thrilled to add a person with Rogers background and proven track record of success. I look forward to working with Roger and the rest of the staff in the pursuit of the Memorial Cup.”
