RED WINGS TO PLAY AT COPPS COLISEUM

Press Release

The Hamilton Red Wings have announced that OJHL game #730, originally slated to be played at their home Mountain Arena on Saturday, February 5 at 7:30 pm versus the Oakville Blades, has been moved to Copps Coliseum, home of the Montreal Canadiens AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The game will be played as part of a special "double-header" immediately following the Bulldogs home game at 5:00 pm versus the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers). The Red Wings-Blades game is now scheduled to begin at 8:30 pm, immediately following the AHL game.

When informed of the opportunity to play in a professional building with a much larger crowd, Red Wings alternate captain Christian Powers stated, "I think this will be a great opportunity and experience for the Red Wings. It will give Hamilton hockey fans a chance to see our team and see how exciting Junior hockey can be. Copps Coliseum is a legendary building and hopefully both teams can put on a good show."

Wings captain and star Zach Hyman echoed his teammates statements, "It's a tremendous honour to play at Copps Coliseum after the Hamilton Bulldogs. We appreciate the support given to us by the Bulldogs and the great fans of Hamilton. Hopefully both Hamilton teams will win. We will give our best effort and we'll be rooting for the Bulldogs too!" This is sure to be a critical divisional match-up that you won't want to miss, as the Red Wings continue their fight for the all-important first round bye in the playoffs. They currently sit six points out of 3rd place behind Georgetown with one game in hand.

The double-header also affords fans the opportunity to see Adirondack Phantoms stars and former OJHL grads Stefan Legein (Milton Icehawks, 2004/05) and Luke Pither (Bowmanville Eagles, 2004/05), as well as former Hamilton Red Wings tough guy Zac Rinaldo (2006/07).

Don't miss this unique opportunity to view hockey's future stars!
