Details Announced for 2010 Doyle Cup

The Spruce Grove Saints and the defending RBC Cup Champion Vernon Vipers of the BCHL will meet in the 2010 Doyle Cup beginning on Friday night. The series will commence in Spruce Grove at the Grant Fuhr Arena then travel to Vernon, BC for the final games of the series.

The Spruce Grove Saints captured the 2010 AJHL Enerflex Cup with a 6-0 victory over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in Game Seven on Tuesday night. Vernon defeated Powell River in Game Seven of the BCHL Championship on Monday to advance to the Doyle Cup as the Fred Page Cup Champion.

The 2010 Enerflex Cup is the first Alberta Junior Hockey League Championship for the Spruce Grove Saints. . The Spruce Grove Mets were League Champions in 1975 and 1976; the St. Albert Saints captured the AJHL Title in 1981, 1982, 1996 and 1998.

The Vernon Vipers are British Columbia Hockey League champions for a second straight year and 11th all-time. Vernon was won the Doyle Cup six times (Vernon Vipers / Vernon Lakers).

The winner of the 2010 Doyle Cup will represent the Pacific Region at the 2010 RBC Cup National Junior ‘A’ Championship in Dauphin, MB from May 1st – 9th.

The Doyle Cup is a best-of-seven series featuring the Enerflex Cup Champion of the AJHL and the Fred Page Cup Champion of the BCHL. The Doyle Cup was donated in 1985 by Pete Doyle, a Penticton businessman and his family, for competition of Junior ‘A’ Hockey Clubs between Alberta and British Columbia. Since the Doyle Cup was introduced, the BCHL has won 16 of 25 championships. Vernon (BCHL) has won the most titles with six, followed by the Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL) with five.
