McInnis Commits to Minnesota State

Okotoks, Alberta, April 21, 2010 – The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce that 20 year old forward John McInnis has committed to the Minnesota State University (Mavericks) of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), in Mankato, Minnesota for the 2010 season.

John is from Boston, Massachusetts and played his minor hockey in the suburb of Quincy, Massachusetts before joining the Oilers for the 2008/ 09 season. In this his second season with the Oilers, John shattered the Oilers goal scoring record, and throughout the season consistently lead the way as one of the hockey club’s leading offensive threats. John’s outstanding play this past season earned him the Okotoks Oilers Most Valuable Player Award.

Oilers GM/Head Coach Garry Van Hereweghe stated, “John has developed into one of the purest goal scorers I have had the pleasure of coaching. He has a quick release that rarely misses the net. Going into next season his scoring touch will be very difficult to replace.” The Okotoks Oilers organization wishes John every success with his future academic and hockey endeavors.
