Jeff Skinner Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Jeff Skinner of the Kitchener Rangers is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 11 with eight points in four games. Skinner scored six goals and added two assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Skinner and the Rangers knocked off the London Knights in seven games in the OHL’s Western Conference Semi-Finals. He recorded a point in all seven games including two first star performances last week with a hat-trick effort in Game 4 on Wednesday as part of an 8-7 overtime win, and with two goals and an assist in a 5-3 Game 6 loss on Saturday. Last week Skinner also scored a goal in a 6-3 loss in Monday’s Game 3, and registered an assist in Thursday’s 8-4 Game 5 win. The Rangers will now play the Windsor Spitfires in the Rogers Western Conference Championship Series.

Skinner, a 17-year-old from Markham, ON, is playing in his second OHL season with the Rangers. Eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Skinner is ranked 39th after scoring 50 goals and 40 assists for 90 points in 64 games this season.

Kris Foucault of the Calgary Hitmen was also considered after scoring three goals and three assists for six points in four games to lead his club to a 4-2 series win over the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Husky WHL Western Conference Semi-Finals. Defenceman Marc-Antoine Desnoyers scored three goals and four assists for seven points in three games to lead the Drummondville Voltigeurs to a 4-1 series win over the Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL quarter finals.
