SHIPLO COMMITS TO WESTERN MICHIGAN

Press Release

Toronto Lakeshore Patriots defenceman Luke Shiplo has confirmed his commitment to join the Western Michigan University Broncos beginning in either 2013 or 2014.

The 16-year old native of Oakville, Ontario, who started the season with the Georgetown Raiders, made significant early season strides under the tutelage of Raiders head coach Greg Walters before the recent trade to the Patriots. Since joining Toronto Lakeshore, the rookie has had a significant impact on the club's blueline. Thus far this season, Shiplo has recorded 10 points in 28 games played, including two points in four games with the Patriots.

Patriots' General Manager and Head Coach Mike Tarantino discussed Shiplo's early success with the club, "Luke has performed and adapted very well with our team. He and Sammy have played well together. Luke also has a very strong hockey IQ and is an exceptional skater. We are very happy for Luke and know that he will be an asset to the Broncos hockey program."

Shiplo becomes the third Toronto Lakeshore Patriots player to commit to an NCAA Division I scholarship already this season, joining new teammates James De Haas (Clarkson) and Matt Buckles (Cornell).

Congratulations Luke and best of luck with the rest of your OJHL career and beyond!
