HICKEY COMMITS TO ALABAMA-HUNTSVILLE

Press Release

Oakville Blades alternate captain Steven Hickey (photo credit - Craig Campbell/HHOF) has confirmed his commitment to join the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers beginning with the 2012-13 NCAA Division I season.

The 6'3", 200 lbs rearguard, who was born in New Haven, Connecticut, spent three years as a staple on the Blades blueline. Hickey originally joined the Blades in 2009-10 from the vaunted Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school program in Minnesota. Over the next three seasons he played 128 regular season games for the Blades, notching 19 goals and 62 points during his OJHL career. He was a member of the 2010 Oakville Blades club that won both the OJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup championships, as well as competed in the RBC Cup, National Junior 'A' Championship.

"Steven has been an important part of the Blades program and figured prominently in our successes over the last three years," said Carlo Coccimiglio, former president of the Blades, who recruited Hickey and coached him along the way. "He was a leader on the penalty kill and the powerplay, he was a leader on the ice and in the room. We're proud of him and wish him every success at Huntsville."

Congratulations to Steven and best of luck in his hockey future!
