Highlights of MJHL Annual General Meeting

MJHL teams will play a 60-game schedule this season (29 home, 29 away and 2 Showcase games), two fewer than last year, it was decided recently at the league’s Annual General Meeting.

 Other highlights of the AGM:

   * The Virden Oil Capitals will play in the Sher-wood Division leaving the Addison Division with five teams and the Sher-wood Division with six.

   * The League approved a two year extension of the Junior A Supplement pilot project with reductions of accumulation levels for fighting majors and instigator penalties.

   * The League endorsed the implementation of a social media policy that provides guidelines on the acceptable usage of new media technologies. The policy applies to players, coaches, team staff/directors, League officials and on-ice officials.

   * The League established a deadline of the end of October 2012 as the date by which one of four clubs (Dauphin, Portage, Selkirk or Winnipeg) will be selected as the host of the 2014 Western Canada Cup. The site selection process will begin in July 2012.

   * The Board of Governors elected Mr. Dale Hughesman (Selkirk Steelers) as Chair of the Board and Mr. Trent Ward (Portage Terriers) as Vice Chair for the 2012 – 2013 season.

   * The Board of Governors approved the implementation of a Competition Committee comprised of four Head Coaches and four Team Governors. The new Committee will replace the League’s Coaches Committee and will be responsible for monitoring on ice concerns with respect to rules and regulations.
