Patriots announce signings from Prospect Camp

Press Release

The Toronto Lakeshore Patriots have made some strong additions to the squad as they prepare for the 2012-2013 season adding two OJHL veterans in Goaltender Stormer Santana and defenceman Tony Belony, along with four midget players in defenceman Niko Kovachis, and Forwards Marcus Rose, Nick Paul, and Luke Carter. "All of the players we have signed bring in a good mix of skill, speed, and compete level. They are all great kids and will add to the strong dressing room we already have" commented General Manager and Head Coach Mike Tarantino.

6'2 185lbs, 1995 born defenceman Niko Kovachis is also a very strong addition to the Patriots blueline. Kovachis was a standout defenceman with the GTHL Midget Champion Mississauga Rebels and may end up cracking the OHL's Ottawa 67's lineup. "We have committed to Niko, but fully understand that Niko may end up in the OHL before our season starts. Either way, one team will have acquired a solid defenceman for next season that can play a strong two-way game and is a great teammate and leader" commented Tarantino. Kovachis is also considering the NCAA as several teams have contacted Tarantino and expressed interest in him.

5'8 165lbs 1994 born forward Marcus Rose is as tenacious as they come. The 2011-2012 Captain of the Toronto Marlboros Midget team was the clubs best all-around player and is a very skilled and intelligent hockey player. "Marcus has great speed, vision, and a very strong hockey IQ. He is more of a playmaker, but has good finish around the net. We're very happy to add Marcus to our team" added Tarantino.

6'2 190lbs 1995 forward Nick Paul possesses one of the best shots around. Paul was the leading goal scorer with the Mississauga Reps Midget team and made such an impression this year in midget, that the Brampton Battalion drafted him as their 5th round choice, even though he's a year older. "Nick is in the same position as Niko in having a good chance of playing in the OHL this season. With that said, should he slip through the cracks we would be very happy to add him to our lineup. I am very excited about the possibility of having Nick play for us."

6'0 190lbs 1995 forward Luke Carter brings a solid all around game coupled with a physical style of play that will serve the Patriots well. Luke is a product of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Midget team and was arguably one of their most consistent forwards throughout the year. "Luke will add some size, physicality, and has a decent scoring touch around the net. Luke will compete for playing time along with the other rookies, who will add to a strong roster we already have" stated Tarantino.

The Patriots welcome these players to the team.
