Early Morning News

The first day is complete of the Four Nations Tournament in Europe.

Russia defeated Finland 4-3. Krill Petrov had a hat trick for the Russians. He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the third round this year. I had one scout tell me last March that he had 1st round talent for this past draft.

The Czech Republic defeated Sweden 4-3 also.

The Nashville Predators have signed forward Nick Sparling. With the Kitchener Rangers last year he had 38 goals and 34 assists in 59 games. He was a third round pick in 2007 and it's an entry level deal.

The Western College Hockey Blog had a couple interesting podts. The first one, is the top 51 Americans that he has seen for the 2009 Draft. I thought it's a pretty good list overall.

The second story is about Jordan Schmaltz and Young Commitments. He makes some interesting points. As much I think it's crazy to see 14 and 15 year olds commit, it's part of the game. The coaches can't do anything about it or these kids will head up north to the CHL. It would be nice to find a solution but it's not going to happen. The other college sports don't have a rival league that goes after the same players. Basketball could have Europe to deal with in the near future but that's about it.

The College Hockey Recruit Exchange has its Top 15 prospects from all over. Jeremy Morin tops the list for the second straight month. Most think he will be in Kitchener at some point. On the Harvard Thread on uscho.com someone posted that Boston College said no to him. Morin's academics are probably scaring schools away. I don't see him doing a Jimmy Hayes and waiting an extra year to get his academics straighten out. At this point I see him in Kitchener next season.

A couple USHL stories. The first one is about George Hughes of Westwood, Massauchettes heading to Waterloo this season. The other is about Dan Ford spending his senoir year in Sioux City.

The Fargo Force have released their roster.

The Saint John Sea Dogs have released their training camp roster.

That's My Take

Not sure why it said that. Funny the article said he was going to Iowa, but kept saying Sioux Falls.
