Tuesday Morning Notes

As I mentioned yesterday afternoon, Swift Current and Prince Albert Raiders will be hosting the WHL leg of the 2008 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge. The Ontario Hockey League announced that the Guelph Storm and the Niagara Ice Dogs will play host for the OHL portion of the Challenge.

In other OHL news, the Kitchener Rangers and the Niagara IceDogs have completed a minor deal yesterday. The Kitchener Rangers will receive goaltender Adrian Volpe for a 2010 15th round pick. Volpe played in seven games last year with the IceDogs. He was 4-1 with a 2.96GAA and a .909SV%.

Volpe will be Josh Unice's back up for the Rangers. Some fans think Unice could be moved to a contender this season if they are out of it. Maybe the Rangers are grooming Volpe to become the starter if they do deal Unice. Maybe Kitchener could rip a team off like the London Knights did too them last season. In all fairness to the Rangers, they had to make the move to accquire Steve Mason to solitify the goaltending. It just didn't workout for them.

The Omaha Lancers look like they have lost another key player. Joey Diamond was suppose to head to Maine this season but was deferred for the 2009-2010 season. As of right now, he's on the Montreal Juniors 50 man roster. He's a free agent so it's most likely he will stick with the Juniors this season.

The Boston College Eagles have received a 2010 commitment from Chris Kreider of Phillips Andover Academy. He had 26 goals last year.

Apparently USA Hockey are trying to get a couple of players to commit to the Under-17 team for the 2009-2010 season. This according to the Scouting News which says the National Team Development Progam has offered four players a spot on the team. This is just pure specalation but I think Colin Jacobs, Shayne McColgan, and Seth Ambroz could be getting early invites. If anyone has the inside scoop please let me know.

USA Hockey is still taking its time officially announce the NTDP Under 18 Team for this season. Although the roster can found here.

That's My Take

Windsor have a trade history with Kitchener so if the Spits have any desire to reach Rimouski then Unice has a logical destination already planned. Just my gut instinct since Rychel has already said he had desires on a few left-over Ranger players possible.

Azevedo was mentioned too but I doubt he sets foot in junior again.

Yogan and 2 seconds, and top import pic for 09 along with a future considertaion for Unice.

Pardon me but.. didnt Unice pull a stinker for Kitchener in the mem cup last year? The games I saw he failed to come up with the big save time and time again.
I thought Kitchener had everything but the goaltending.

Yes he did have a few bad games as critical times. That to me say's not a big time Netminder like a Mason.

But this is the OHL for 08 and maybe the best available later on. Mike Murphy is probably the best in the league but Belleville are not going to shop him yet.

Who else is there.

Do you like more, Unice or McCollum?
