USA Falls

When I visited USA Hockey's Website this afternoon, I was surprised to see the result of the Under 17 game posted on the site. It wasn't a pretty result as Czech Republic defeated the Americans 3-0. Petr Mrazek stopped all 30 shots he saw in the victory. Andy Iles also stopped 30 shots but also let in three goals. The Czech Republic goal scorers were Jiří Rys, Marek Račuk, and Tomáš Pacanda. United States hit the ice tomorrow at 12:30 Eastern Time to finish off the tournament.

Some more Sudbury Wolves news. They traded 2007 6th round pick, Colin Martin, to the London Knights for a sixth round pick in the 2009 Draft.

Christian Thomas, London Knights first round selection was signed earlier this summer.

In other Kitchener Rangers news, the team said they will have defenseman Ben Shutron for his overage season. The Chicago Blackhawks fourth round selection in 2006 had two goals and four assists between the Kingston Frontenacs and the Kitchener Rangers last season.

The three teams that put in a bid for the 2010 Memorial Cup are the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Kelowna Rockets, and the Everett Silvertips. Nick Patterson over at the Silvertips Blog is reporting that the Silvertips are the third team putting a bid in.

TSN is reporting that former Toronto Maple Leafs coach, Pat Quinn, could be the leading canidate for the head coaching job for the World Junior squad. The other is the current assistant coach Willie Desjardins. Quinn lead Canada's Under 18 Team this spring to gold at the Under 18's. If Quinn does get the job, will the Ottawa fans cheer or boo him?

The Gatineau Olympiques announce that former assistant coach Mario Richer will become the new head coach.

The QMJHL opened up the summer trade period today. The Saint John Sea Dogs sent heavyweight Brett Gallant to the Lewiston Maineiacs for a sixth round selection.

That's My Take
