OHL Boston Pizza Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Luke Pither of the Barrie Colts is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 20. Pither scored seven goals in two wins for the Colts in the opening week of the OHL’s 2009-10 regular season.

Pither and the Colts opened the season at home against the Owen Sound Attack Thursday night with a big 9-1 win at the Barrie Molson Centre. Pither celebrated his regular season debut with the Colts as first star of the game scoring four goals, three of which came on the power play including the game-winner scored at 11:20 of the first period. He continued to pick apart the opposition with the man advantage notching three power play goals Saturday to lead the Colts to a 5-4 overtime win against the Niagara IceDogs. He scored the game-winner at 2:18 of the extra frame and was named second star of the game.

Pither, a 20-year-old from Burketon, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL season but first with the Colts after being acquired in an offseason trade from the Belleville Bulls. Last season he scored 35 goals and 37 assists for 72 points in 64 games including 23 with the Bulls and 41 with the Guelph Storm. Prior to the start of the season, Pither was invited to attend the New York Rangers training camp as a free agent.

Honourable mention this week goes to first year player Alexander Burmistrov of the Colts who scored three goals and five assists for eight points in his first two career OHL games. Second year forward Tyler Seguin scored three goals and three assists for six points in a pair of wins for the Plymouth Whalers. In goal, Jason Missiaen of the Peterborough Petes won two games with a goals-against-average of 1.50 while posting a save percentage of .958.
