Canada cuts four

The four players released were: defencemen Nicolas Deslauriers (St-Anicet, Que./ Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL), Brandon Gormley (Murray River, P.E.I./ Moncton, QMJHL) and forwards John McFarland (Richmond Hill, Ont./ Sudbury, OHL) and Tyler Seguin (Brampton, Ont./ Plymouth, OHL).

With Tuesday’s player releases, the National Junior Team selection camp roster now stands at 31 players, including four goaltenders, ten defencemen and 17 forwards.

Canada’s National Junior Team runs through December 16 in Regina, Sask., with the players vying for one of 22 roster spots for Canada for the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship. A roster formed with players at selection camp will face a CIS team on Tuesday, December 15, with tickets available for purchase at the door. Canada will play its first game of the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship on Boxing Day, December 26 versus Latvia, a game that will be broadcast LIVE by TSN/RDS and on The FAN Radio Network (check local listings).

Canada has medaled at eleven straight IIHF World Junior Championships including gold medal performances in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, silver medals in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and bronze medals in 2000 and 2001.
