SJHL Players of the Month

Winner: Travis Janke, Notre Dame Hounds
1989 F Travis Janke (Swift Current SK) ripped up the SJHL to the tune of 10-goals and 10-assists in just 9-games during the month of December. Janke picked up, at least, one point in every game and all of his points came at even strength. He now has 20-goals and 24-assists in 33-games to rank third in the league in both goals scored and points accumulated. From December 9th-18th, Janke had four three-point games in a row.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH
Winner: Woody Klassen, Battlefords North Stars
1991 D Woody Klassen (Watrous SK) continues to show marked improvement with each passing game. A member of a defense corps that is proving to be physical as well as mobidle, Klassen contributed a goal and six helpers over eight games during the month of December. With four points in his last two games, Klassen goes into the Christmas Break on a high. Overall, he has 3-goals and 17-assists in 27-games.
Runners-up: Mike Alexander, La Ronge; Dustin Stevenson, La Ronge; Scott Brkich, Nipawin; Michael Young, Flin Flon

SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH
Winner: AJ Whiffen, Weyburn Red Wings
1989 G AJ Whiffen (Grand Falls Windsor NF) made three starts in the month of December and won them all, compiling a spectacular 1.00 GAA and a .964 SPCT. Whiffen also turned away 80-of-83 shots. His 2.42 GAA ranks second in the league. He capped the month with a 25-save shutout over the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday night. It was his second shutout of the season.
Runners-up: Graham Hildebrand, Battlefords; Kirk Croswell, Humboldt, Devin Peters, Yorkton; Derek Tendler, Estevan.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
Winner: Derek Tendler, Estevan Bruins
1992 G Derek Tendler (Regina SK) made five starts during the month of December and allowed two goals or less in four of them. He blanked the Kindersley Klippers with a 30-save performance on December 5th. He finished the month 2-and-3, but had a 2.01-GAA and a .934-SPCT. Overall on the season, he has a 2.99-GAA and a .907-SPCT.
Runners-up: Jonathan Ceci, Nipawin; Andrew Johnston, Flin Flon; Matthew Smidt, Notre Dame; Ward Szucki, Battlefords.
