Oleksiak Commits to Northeastern University

Chicago Steel defenseman Jamie Oleksiak has committed to attend Northeastern University following his USHL career.

Playing in his second USHL season, the 6-7, 220-pound blueliner has collected six points (6a) in 20 games for the Steel. He posted four assists in 29 games during the 2008-09 season. Oleksiak, who turns 17 next week, was also a member of the U.S. Select Team that competed at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia this past summer.

Four other current USHL players are also committed to attend Northeastern University following their USHL careers; Anthony Bitetto (Indiana Ice), Brodie Reid (Lincoln Stars), Clay Witt (Sioux Falls Stampede), and Luke Eibler (Youngstown Phantoms).

The Northeastern Huskies, members of Hockey East, currently have 12 former USHL players on its roster for the 2009-10; Chris Student (Waterloo), Jake Newton (Lincoln), David Strathman (Cedar Rapids), J.P. Maley (Des Moines), Garrett Vermeersch (Lincoln), Steve Quailer (Sioux City), Justin Daniels (Sioux City), Drew Daniels (Sioux City), Randy Guzior (Chicago), Steve Silva (Green Bay), Alex Tuckerman (Sioux City), and Robbie Vrolyk (Sioux Falls).
