Kings' Shamanski named RBC Player of Month

Press Release

Steven Shamanski, the anchor of the Dauphin Kings’ blueline, has been named the RBC Player of the Month for March.

Shamanski, who was recently named the MJHL’s Player of the Year, is not only a steady influence along the Kings’ blueline, but he’s capable of generating offence reflected in his 17 points (5-12) in nine games last month.

Shamanski and his King teammates hold a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven MJHL final against Winnipeg Saints. Game 4 goes Saturday night at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place.

Runners-up for the RBC Player of the Month award were Winnipeg Saints’ forward Cole Pruden, 19, and Dauphin forward Zeanan Ziemer, 20.

Sher-wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month

One of the reasons why the Dauphin Kings won a franchise high 50 games this season is the depth along their blueline. You don’t have to look any farther than Patrick Kozyra, 20, to see this skill level. The big defenceman (6-foot-2, 200 pounds), made life easier for his goaltenders, in addition to chipping in eight assists in nine games last month.

The runners up were Jordan Peters, 20 of theWinkler Flyers and Mike Boese, 19, of the Dauphin Kings.

GDI Prairies Goaltender of the Month

Dauphin King goaltender Joe Caligiuri was practically unbeatable last month reflected in his outstanding 8-1 record. The 20-year-old Winnipeg product allowed only 17 goals on 219 shots, earning him a sparkling 1.86 GAA.

The runners up are 20 year old Justin Leclerc of the Winnipeg Saints and 20 year old Jayme Janzen of the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Husky Energy Rookie of the Month

Winnipeg Saints’ forward David Conrad has enjoyed a strong freshman season in the MJHL. Last month the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Winnipegger recorded four points (1-3) for the Saints.

The runners up are 18 year old forward Seth Ronsberg of theWinkler Flyers and 18 year old defenseman Mathew Backhouse of the Dauphin Kings.
