MAINEiacs Assign Coonishish-Coon To St-Jerome Panthers

Press Release

Maine Hockey Journal

The Lewiston MAINEiacs have announced a roster move, effective immediately, assigning forward Jonah Coonishish-Coon to the St-Jerome Panthers of the Quebec AAA Junior Hockey League.

Coonishish-Coon, 17, was originally signed by the MAINEiacs as a free agent this past summer. The signing was made official at the 2010 QMJHL Entry Draft in Drummondville. Thus far this season, the Chibougamau, QC native has been scoreless in nine games with Lewiston, while picking up 14 penalty minutes. Ten of Coonishish-Coon's penalty minutes have come from fighting majors, as the rookie dropped the gloves with Quebec's Guillaume Rousseau and Val-d'Or's Alexandre Carrier.

"It's important for our players to get a lot of ice time," said MAINEiacs General Manager Roger Shannon. "Because of how much talent we have on our team, it's tough to get that ice time here, so we feel that this move will help further Jonah's development as a player," he said.

Through the years, St-Jerome and Lewiston have created a pipeline, as the Panthers once had the likes of David Perron and Jess Tanguy, before both players made their way to the MAINEiacs. Currently, St-Jerome has one other former MAINEiac on the roster, as Mathieu Gingras is currently perfecting his skills with the Panthers.

Today, the MAINEiacs have made a stop in Amherst, NS, for practice, and will be making a community appearance at Spring Street Academy later today. After that, the team will travel to Sydney, NS for a Tuesday night game against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at 6:00.
