Two MJHLers named to Under-17 team

Press Release

Two players from the MJHL have been selected to the roster of Team West at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie.

Landon Peel (Swan Valley Stampeders) and Brendan Harms (Portage Terriers), will compete in the prestigious tournament which runs from December 28 to January 4. David Anning, GM/Head Coach of Winnipeg Saints, will serve as an assistant coach under head coach Garth Mitchell (Yellowhead Chiefs).

“Both these players should be extremely proud of themselves and their accomplishment,“ MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis said. “The selection process was extremely thorough. Their selection reflects the high calibre of play they will bring to Team West.“

Peel, who calls Virden home, is a defenceman who stands 5-foot-11. He has four points in eight games. Harms, is a 5-foot-11 forward who hails from Steinbach.

The selection process was completed through the Hockey Manitoba Program of Excellence (POE) each season. The U-17 process began at the POE Summer Camp and final rosters decisions were also decided through scouting this fall.

The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will feature some of the world’s top 1994 born players from Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Finland, Slovakia, and United States.
