Vees goalie Garteig has triumphant return to lineup, earns POW

Penticton Vees goalie Michael Garteig has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 22, the league announced Monday.

Garteig, who had not played since Feb. 26 because of an injury, returned to the Vees' crease Saturday for Game 2 of the Doyle Cup and proceeded to make 43 saves in a 1-0 win.

The victory put the Vees ahead 2-0 on the Brooks Bandits in the best-of-seven series that will decide who gets to go to the RBC Cup.

Honourable mentions this week go to Vees fowards Wade Murphy (two goals, one GWG), Mario Lucia (one goal, three assists), Logan Johnston (two goals, one assist, one GWG) and defenceman Troy Stecher (one goal, one assist).
