McCARRON NAMED SW PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Press Release

The OJHL announced today that St. Michael’s Buzzers captain Patrick McCarron (photo credit - Mike Ivall/OJHL Images) has been named the Gongshow Gear South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month for October after leading all OJHL defencemen with 13 points throughout the month.

The 18-year old defenceman was a pillar of consistency this month, notching five goals and thirteen points in 11 games played during the month to finish tied for the second best total among all players in the South Division.  McCarron recorded points in nine of the eleven games he played and entered the Team Canada East Selection Camp on a six game point streak, while helping St. Michael’s to first place in the South Division standings.  The undisputed leader among Buzzer players, his poise with the puck has made McCarron one of the club’s go-to guys, especially on the power play, where he recorded five power play assists and seven power play points during the month.  Three times during the month, the rearguard recorded multi-point games, including a three point effort during a 4-1 victory over Georgetown before camp.  McCarron is currently the only defenceman to sit in the top 25 of overall OJHL scoring with 22 points and his 11 power play helpers is tied for third best overall.

“It is an extreme honour to be named the South-West Player-of-the-Month,” said McCarron.  “There are a lot of great players in this conference and in this league, and it truly is an honour to win the award.  We had a great month as a group and I would like to thank my Buzzers teammates for playing a part in the award, as well as Coach Ricci for giving me the opportunities that he has thus far.  Once I’m back at St. Mike’s, I look forward to getting back to work and helping the club to a Division title and then making some noise in the playoffs.

Buzzers General Manager and Head Coach Rich Ricci discussed his captain’s importance to the club, “Patty is this season’s Buzzers captain and has displayed tremendous off and on-ice leadership.  A late bloomer, Patty is currently a premier defenceman in the OJHL, leading in goals, assists and points.  Patty has made a great case for re-entry for the 2013 NHL draft and I believe he will be a standout at Cornell.  I also believe he has a promising pro career ahead.”

Brendan Woods of the Georgetown Raiders was runner-up to McCarron as the OJHL South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month.  Woods led the West Division during the month of October with eight goals, including three shorthanded, while recording 13 points in his 10 games played.
