Isherwood Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that defenceman Mark Isherwood of the Medicine Hat Tigers is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 18. Isherwood scored four goals with two assists for six points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Isherwood helped the Tigers to a 3-0-0-0 record beginning Monday in Kamloops with a big 12-5 victory over the Blazers. He scored two goals in the contest and was named the game’s second star. On Friday night he assisted on both goals for the Tigers who battled to a 2-1 overtime win against the Chilliwack Bruins. His week finished Sunday with another two-goal performance netting the game-winner in a 4-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos where he was named first star of the game.

Isherwood, a 20-year-old from Abbotsford, BC, is in his fourth full WHL season with the Tigers. He has six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 12 games and is currently ranked third in scoring amongst WHL defencemen.

Previous award winner Jonathan Hazen of the Val d’Or Foreurs was nominated again this week from the QMJHL after scoring three goals and four assists for seven points in three games with an impressive plus-minus rating of plus-5. Nathan Moon of the Kingston Frontenacs scored two goals and six assists for eight points in four games, highlighted by a five-assist game Friday night in a 7-3 win over the Peterborough Petes where he was named the game’s first star.
