Vandekamp Signs for Three More Years

Press Release

The Grande Prairie Storm is pleased to announce the signing of General Manager and Head Coach Mike Vandekamp to a three-year extension.

With the extension, Vandekamp will remain with the Storm through the 2012-2013 season.

“I’m very excited to be given the opportunity to continue to work with the Storm,” says Vandekamp. “It’s been a great fit for me so far and a great fit for my family.
“This is such a strong organization and I’ve been treated so well.”

A two-time Coach of the Year award winner in the BCHL, Vandekamp is entering his third season at the Storm helm.

He guided Grande Prairie to an AJHL championship last spring, breaking regular season franchise records for wins (42) and points (89) along the way. The Storm also set a single season team goals against record at 134.

“Under Mike’s guidance, the Storm has achieved tremendous success, both on and off the ice,” says Storm Chairman Lionel Jones.

“We feel very fortunate to have a coach of his calibre within our organization and we look forward to continued success in the future.”

The Storm (5-5-0-1) have won three straight games and look to continue their hot streak this weekend, as they host the league-leading Spruce Grove Saints (9-0-0-1) Friday and Saturday at the Canada Games Arena.
