Telus Players of the Week

Press Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 19, 2009 – Val-d’Or Foreurs forward Jonathan Hazen and Rimouski Océanic defenseman Gleason Fournier today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 12 to 18.

Hazen recorded three goals on thirteen shots and added four helpers in three games while posting an impressive +5 rating. Moreover, the winger played a part in 58% of his team’s goals this week. He played his best game last Thursday, collecting four points in a 5-2 victory over the Titan. Hazen is tied with Huskies’ forward Gabriel Lévesque atop the QMJHL scoring standings with 24 points.

Jacob Lagacé (Saguenéens), Pierre-Alexandre Vandall (Cataractes) and Petr Straka (Océanic) were also considered.

On defence, Gleason Fournier wins the award. In three Océanic victories, Fournier registered two goals and four assists while posting a +4 rating. He also punished opponents, collecting ten hits. Since his return to the Rimouski Océanic line-up earlier this month, Fournier has tallied eight points in five games – all Rimouski wins.

Marco Scandella (Foreurs), Hugo Laporte (Olympiques) and Philippe Tremblay (Océanic) were also strong candidates.
