Telus Players of the Week

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 7, 2009 – P.E.I. Rocket forward Samson Mahbod and Baie-Comeau Drakkar goaltender Nathan Dunnett today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from November 30 to December 6.

Mahbod registered two goals and seven assists while posting an excellent +7 rating in three contests. He played his best game of the week on Friday, tying a career-high by collecting six points in an 8-5 victory over the Halifax Mooseheads. The Rocket sniper also notched the game-winner. Finally, he had nine shots on goal over the three-game span. P.E.I. is second in the Atlantic Division after registering eight wins in their last ten games.

Joël Champagne (Rocket), Sean Couturier (Voltigeurs) and Tomas Kubalik (Tigres) were also considered.

Dunnett gets the nod on the defensive end. The netminder helped the Drakkar defeat the Cataractes and the Huskies by stopping an average of 35 shots per game. He completed the week with a 1.00 goals-against-average and .971 save percentage. Moreover, the Whitney (NB) native posted a shutout. Baie-Comeau has won its last three games.

Simon Jodoin (Wildcats), Dmitry Kostromitin (Huskies) and Maxime Renaud (Drakkar) were also considered.
