Filiatrault suspended and Patrick Roy fined

Press Release

The disciplinary prefect of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Raymond Bolduc, suspended today Val-d’Or defenseman Alex Filiatrault for six additional games. The suspension was handed out after an incident which occurred during a game played on January 14 versus the Quebec Remparts. Here is the rationale which led to the decision:

The opponent was in possession of the puck close to his blue line and headed towards the player at fault’s zone.
At the same time, the player at fault headed towards the opponent for a check.
As the opponent changed his direction to avoid him, the player at fault also changed his direction.
He hit his opponent on the knee.
The result of the knee to knee impact injured the opponent.
This was the first offense for the player at fault.

The video of the event will be available shortly.

Moreover, the Commissioner announced that the Quebec Remparts organization has been fined $2,500 due to comments made by General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Roy during the post-game press conference held on January 4th. “I do not tolerate any criticism made to the media about our officials, video goal judges, team personnel or players that casts a doubt at the integrity of our league”, said the Commissioner.
