Rivermen d-man Coyne lands scholarship to Alaska-Fairbanks

Press Release

The Langley Rivermen are pleased to announce defenceman Richard Coyne has committed to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks for the 2012-2013 season.

Since joining the Rivermen franchise in mid November from the Lincoln Stars of the USHL, Richard has been an anchor back on the blue line for the Rivermen. Rivermen defence coach Bobby Henderson is not surprised Richard has furthered his hockey career.

“We are very excited for him and believe Alaska-Fairbanks will be a great opportunity. He has worked extremely hard since being here with us and really deserves this."

The Arizona native has put up six assists in 16 games in his time in a Rivermen uniform and has provided veteran leadership on a young squad. Coyne did not have to look far to learn about his new university as Rivermen offensive coach Jordan Emmerson spent four years at Alaska-Fairbanks. With this announcement, the Rivermen now have five players on the roster who have commitments to either a college or university.

On behalf of the entire Langley Rivermen organization we would like to congratulate Richard on his accomplishment.
