Press Release

Lincoln Stars forward Matt Friese has committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska Fairbanks following his USHL career.

Friese has appeared in all 36 games for the Stars this season and collected 20 points (7g, 13a) while posting a plus-11 rating. The 19-year-old put together a five-game point streak (1g, 5a) from December 3-16 and then recorded a USHL career high three-point game (1g, 2a) and a plus-four rating in the 7-6 win over Des Moines on December 30th. He also played 10 games last season with the Chicago Steel, putting up six points (2g, 4a).

The Wasilla, Alaska native will be returning to his home state when his collegiate career begins at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He joins fellow Alaska native Jared Linnell of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders who is also committed to the school.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is a member of the CCHA and five USHL alumni are on the roster this season for the Nanooks – Steve Thompson (Sioux City/Omaha), Justin Filzen (Green Bay Gamblers), Cody Butcher (Sioux City Musketeers), Andy Taranto (Fargo Force/Omaha Lancers), and Nolan Youngmun (Sioux Fall Stampede).
