Generals Looking to the Future

Press Release

The Oshawa Generals announced today that the organization has decided not to renew the contracts of General Manager Chris DePiero and Assistant Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Joe Cirella.

The Oshawa Generals organization is grateful for their dedication and years of service to the team. Their time with the team has been significant and their work greatly appreciated.

Chris DePiero first joined the Generals in 2006 when he served as an Associate Coach under Brad Selwood. He became Head Coach in the 2007-2008 season and saw the team to the third round of the playoffs. DePiero spent the next two years helping the Generals through a rebuilding phase and returned to post-season action for the 2011 and 2012 playoffs. DePiero became General Manager on a full time basis during the 2011-2012 season as Gary Agnew was brought on as head coach.

Joe Cirella became an Assistant Coach with the Oshawa Generals for the 1998-1999 season and served for five years. Leaving after the 2003-2004 season, Cirella returned in 2010. His commitment to the team stretches beyond his coaching though. Cirella played for the Generals from the 1980-1981 season to the 1982-1983 season. Under his leadership as Team Captain, the Generals won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions and were finalists for the Memorial Cup.

President and Governor Rocco Tullio commented on the matter,

“On behalf of the entire Oshawa Generals organization, I want to extend my sincerest appreciation for the time, dedication, and passion that these gentlemen have given to the club. Their hard work and commitment have helped to define this team. With gratitude and thanks, we wish them all the best in the future.”
