Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mac
Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the
Week for the second time this season after posting a 4-0-0-0 record with
a goals-against-average of 0.97 and save percentage of .963 for the
week ending November 11.
Carruth stopped 89 of 92 shots faced backstopping the Winterhawks to
four wins last week extending the club’s win-streak to 12 straight
games. He began the week with a 21-save performance on Tuesday in a 5-1
win over the Red Deer Rebels, then picked up the win Friday night
against the Vancouver Giants entering the game with the scored tied in
the third period. He wrapped up his week with two more victories
against some of the WHL’s best teams including U.S Division rivals the
Spokane Chiefs on Saturday where he made 43 saves in a 9-1 win, then on
Sunday where he claimed thid star honours with 24 saves in a 3-1 win
over the Kamloops Blazers.
Carruth, a 20-year-old from Shorewood, MN, is playing in his fourth
WHL season with the Winterhawks and was selected in the 2010 NHL Entry
Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. Since returning to the Winterhawks
Carruth has maintained a perfect 9-0-0-0 record with two shutouts and a
league-low goals-against-average of 0.97 and league-high save percentage
of .963.
Also considered for the award this week was Oscar Dansk of the Erie
Otters with a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 2.00 and
save percentage of .957, and rookie Marvin Cupper of the Shawinigan
Cataractes who posted a 1-1-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of
2.01 and save percentage of .941.
