Dmitrij Jaskin, Félix Girard and Alex Dubeau were named today the TELUS
three stars of the week for the period extending from January 21 to 27,
2013.
For the second consecutive week, the TELUS first star goes
to Moncton Wildcats power-forward Dmitrij Jaskin. In four games, the
young St. Louis Blues prospect collected seven goals and four assists
for 11 points while posting a +6 differential. He helped the Wildcats
register four wins in as many starts during a crucial time in the
season. With a goal and two assists, Jaskin earned the third star of the
game in a 6-1 win over the Rocket on Wednesday. He also had a good
start to the weekend, registering two goals and an assist in a 5-0
Wildcats shutout victory over the Titan in Bathurst. He was named the
first star of the game after recording 11 shots on goal. He repeated
the feat the next day over the Titan and earned the first star of the
game with a goal, an assist and five hits. Finally, Moncton defeated the
always dangerous Quebec Remparts by the score of 6-2. Dmitrij Jaskin
literally stole the show with a spectacular hat trick. His third goal of
the night was his 35th of the season in only 39 games! His solid
performance earned him the first star of the game for a third straight
night. Jaskin sits third in the QMJHL scoring race with 75 points, just
two points behind the league leader Josh Currie, captain of the PEI
Rocket.
This week’s TELUS second star goes to Baie-Comeau Drakkar
captain Félix Girard. He collected eight points in four games,
including a game-winning goal, while winning an incredible 72.6% of his
face-offs. He scored a goal versus the Olympiques, although the Drakkar
eventually fell 4-2 in what would become the first loss in regulation
for the Drakkar in twelve games. While the Drakkar began a series of
three straight games on the roadFriday night, he collected two assists
in a win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs and was name the game's third
star. He added two assists the next day in a 3-2 overtime victory over
the Victoriaville Tigres. He ended his brilliant weekend by registering
two goals and an assist in a convincing 7-3 win over the Shawinigan
Cataractes and earned the first star of the game.
Alex Dubeau of
the Moncton Wildcats gets the TELUS third star. The young Mascouche
native tallied three wins in as many starts while maintaining a
goals-against-average of 1.00 and a solid save percentage of .962. His
26 saves in a 6-1 victory over the PEI Rocket earned him the second star
of the contest. Moncton’s goaltender offered an incredible performance
the next day with 21 saves to register his fourth shutout of the season
in a 5-0 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Dubeau is close to the team
record of six shutouts in a season co-owned by Simon Lajeunesse
(1999-00) and Corey Crawford (2004-2005). He concluded the weekend on a
high note with a 29-save performance which allowed Moncton to register
its eighth straight win, a 6-2 decision over the Quebec Remparts.
