Chiefs rearguard Masella earns scholarship to St. Lawrence

Chilliwack Chiefs defenceman Ben Masella has accepted a scholarship to play for the St. Lawrence University Saints starting next season.

Masella is in his first BCHL season and scored three goals and 10 assists while playing all 56 games for the Chiefs. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Montreal also racked up 86 penalty minutes.

At St. Lawrence, Masella will join Chiefs teammate Trevor Hills who inked with the school earlier this season. Former BCHLers Sean McGovern and Alex Hagen just completed their freshmen seasons with the Saints.

Masella is the eighth member of the Chiefs to commit to an NCAA University for next season. He joins Hills, Austin Plevy (Merrimack), David Thompson (Penn State), Alexandre Perron - Fontaine (RIT), Mitch Gillam (Cornell), Philip Zielonka (Harvard), and Luke Esposito (Harvard).

St. Lawrence University is located in Canton, N.Y. and the hockey team competes in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference agains the likes of Harvard, Yale, Quinnipiac, Brown and Princeton.
