Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to
congratulate Alternate Captain Travis Ewanyk on signing his NHL entry
level contract with the Edmonton Oilers. Ewanyk was selected by the
Oilers in the third round - 74th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Last season as an Oil Kings Alternate Captain, Ewanyk played in only 11
regular season games due to injury. The power forward was sidelined in
early 2011 and completed surgery and rehab in time to return for the
Oil Kings 2012 WHL Playoff run and their franchise best 22-game winning
streak which would not come to an end until the third round of the
playoffs. Ewanyk has totalled 8 goals, 15 assists and 119 PIMs to go
with a plus-23 rating in the 2012-13 regular season.
The
native of St.Albert was the Oil Kings third round pick, 48th overall in
the 2008 WHL Bantam draft. He has participated in the Hockey Canada
Program of Excellence at the 2010 World U-17 Hockey Challenge for Team
Pacific, the 2011 World U-18 Championship and as a member of Team WHL at
the 2012 Canada Russia Super Series. The Oil Kings currently have four
Oilers draft picks on their roster including Ewanyk, Martin Gernat,
Mitch Moroz and David Musil.
