QMJHL Players of the Week

Press Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 22, 2008 – Drummondville Voltigeurs forward Yannick Riendeau and Victoriaville Tigres netminder Kevin Poulin today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from December 15 to 22.

Riendeau collected three goals on eleven shots and added two assists in two Drummondville wins. Moreover, he posted a +3 rating. The right-winger played his best game of the week on Thursday, versus the Cataractes, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in the third period in a 3-2 victory. He also collected first star honours. The Voltigeurs have now won seventeen consecutive games.

Samson Mahbod (Voltigeurs), Alexandre Quesnel (Olympiques) and Samuel Morneau (Foreurs) were also considered.

Kevin Poulin gets the nod on defence. The Tigres goaltender was simply outstanding last week, registering one win in two starts while posting a 1.53 goals-against-average and .961 save percentage. In his first outing, Poulin turned away 41 shots in a 2-0 victory over the P.E.I. Rocket. The next day, he kept the Tigres close by stopping 33 shots during a 3-2 loss at the hands of the mighty Shawinigan Cataractes.

Robert Mayer (Sea Dogs), Charles Lavigne (Remparts) and Kevin Marshall (Remparts) were also strong candidates.
