Hamilton WHL Boston Pizza Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Wacey Hamilton of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Hamilton collected 11 points, scoring two goals and nine assists to go with a +5 rating, in five games over the past week, helping the Tigers post a 5-0-0-0 record in that span, with four of the victories coming on the road.

On Monday, December 7th, the Tigers travelled to Lethbridge for a Central Division match up with the Hurricanes. Hamilton picked up an assist in the Tigers 4-3 win. On Wednesday, December 9th the Tigers were in Red Deer to face the Rebels; Hamilton assisted on the Tigers lone goal as they downed the Rebels 2-1 in a shoot-out. On Friday, December 11th, the Tigers hosted the new look Regina Pats to the Arena in Medicine Hat. Hamilton netted one goal and added four assists, for the first five point game of his career, to hand the Pats a 7-2 loss; he also was named the games 1st Star. The next evening the Tigers were back on the road visiting the Calgary Hitmen at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Hamilton nabbed one assist in the Tigers 6-5 shoot-out victory over the Hitmen. On Sunday, December 13th, the Tigers wrapped up a busy week back at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge to face the ‘Canes. Hamilton found the net once and added a pair of assists to extend his Tigers’ win streak to five with a 5-4 victory over the Hurricanes. He was also named the games 1st Star.

Hamilton’s 11 points over the last five games has him sitting tied for 13th among all WHL scorers with 42 points (11 goals, 31 assists) in 33 games. With their five victories this past week the Tigers have posted 8-1-0-1 record in their last ten contests and currently sit second in the WHL Central Division with a 21-10-2-4 record for 48 points, just four back of the Calgary Hitmen.

Hamilton, a 19-year-old from Cochrane, Alberta and Tigers team captain, is playing his third full season in Medicine Hat. He was acquired by the Tigers in a trade with the Vancouver Giants prior to the start of the 2007-08 regular season and has gone onto appear in 133 games collecting 91 career points.

The WHL has also nominated Ian Curtis of the Portland Winterhawks for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Curtis posted a 2-0-0-0 road record with one shut-out this past week, stopping 67 of 70 shots faced for a 1.470 goals-against average and a 0.957 save percentage. Curtis, a native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, has appeared in 19 games this season posting an 11-4-0-1 record with two shut-outs.
