Lazo Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Johnny Lazo of the Tri-City Americans is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 6. In two road games Lazo scored six goals with one assist for seven points with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Lazo’s two hat-trick performances led the Americans to two wins this week beginning Friday night in a 7-0 win over the Kamloops Blazers where he netted three goals including the game-winner at 4:42 of the opening period as first star of the game. Lazo collected his second straight three-goal game and third of his career Saturday night also adding an assist as first star of a 5-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets.

Lazo, a 20-year-old from Winnipeg, MB, is playing in his third full WHL season with the Americans. In 29 games this season he has 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points.

Alex Hutchings of the OHL’s Barrie Colts was also considered with eight points in three games. His week was highlighted by scoring four shorthanded goals with his best performance played Friday night with a goal and four assists as first star of a 6-3 win over the Erie Otters. Samson Mahbod of the QMJHL’s P.E.I. Rocket had nine points in three games highlighted by a six-point effort Friday night with two goals including the game-winner and four assists as second star in the 8-5 win over the Halifax Mooseheads.
