Beers Commits to University of Notre Dame

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Jared Beers has committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Notre Dame.

The 19-year-old collected 15 points (4g, 11a) in 46 games for the RoughRiders during his first USHL season. Beers was named USHL CCM Defensive Player of the Week following the 10th week of the season after he recorded three points (1g, 2a) and a plus-four rating to help the RoughRiders earn five of a possible six points in the standings over three games. He is a native of Mishawaka, Indiana which is only seven miles from the Notre Dame campus

Beers joins RoughRiders teammate Jeff Costello who is also committed to play hockey at the University of Notre Dame. Twelve other USHL players from the 2009-10 season are committed to the school; Anders Lee (Green Bay Gamblers), David Gerths (Green Bay Gamblers), Steve Summerhays (Green Bay Gamblers), Kevin Lind (Chicago Steel), T.J. Tynan (Des Moines Buccaneers), Garrett Peterson (Lincoln Stars), Michael Voran (Sioux Falls Stampede), Stephen Johns (Team USA), Robbie Russo (Team USA), Bryan Rust (Team USA), Andy Ryan (Team USA), and Jarred Tinordi (Team USA).

The University of Notre Dame is a member of the CCHA and had 13 former USHL players on the roster during the 2009-10 season; Joe Lavin (Omaha Lancers), Kevin Deeth (Green Bay Gamblers), Ryan Guentzel (Sioux Falls Stampede), Mike Johnson (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Dan Kissel (Chicago Steel), Nick Larson (Waterloo Black Hawks), Kyle Lawson (Tri-City Storm), Billy Maday (Waterloo Black Hawks), Christiaan Minella (Sioux City Musketeers), Kevin Nugent (Tri-City Storm), Calle Ridderwall (Tri-City Storm), Ben Ryan (Des Moines Buccaneers), and Ryan Thang (Omaha Lancers).
