Nanaimo's Jaw commits to Harvard University for 2011

Press Release

The British Columbia Hockey League's Nanaimo Clippers are pleased to announce that forward Brayden Jaw has committed to attend Harvard University and suit up for the NCAA Division I Crimson for the 2011/12 season.

Jaw's commitment comes on the heels of a successful rookie season in the league. In 58 games, the Vancouver, B.C. product scored 13 goals and totalled 34 points. He went on to add five goals and four assists in 12 postseason games, helping the Clippers to the second round of the Coastal Conference playoffs.

"Brayden is a prototypical power forward with great speed and will be an asset to Harvard and their style of play," says Clippers head coach and GM Bill Bestwick. "His commitment to academics is also being recognized with the honor of attending Harvard."

Jaw will join a trio of BCHL graduates with the Crimson, as Eric Kroshus (Penticton Vees) and Daniel Moriarty (Alberni Valley Bulldogs) are heading into their junior seasons, while former Salmon Arm SilverBacks forward recently completed his freshman year.

The 18-year old is the fourth Clipper to secure an NCAA scholarship this season, with forwards Carson Schell (Geneseo) and Joe Perry (St. Norbert), as well as defenceman Victor Newell (Yale) having already confirmed their post-secondary futures.
