The Chicago Steel pulled off a trade to acquire the first overall pick in the Entry Draft. With that pick, they drafted forward Adam Krause who graduates this spring from Hermantown High School in Minnesota. Krause led Hermantown to the Class A title game and was also a finalist for Mr. Minnesota Hockey award. The 18-year-old is committed to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

The Youngstown Phantoms held the second selection in the Entry Draft and chose 18-year-old forward John Fritsche who spent this past season with Alpena in the NAHL. He also appeared in two USHL games with the Green Bay Gamblers this season.

Of the 15 selections in the first round of the 2010 Entry Draft, ten are forwards, four are defensemen, and one is a goaltender, which is ironically the same breakdown of the first round in Tuesday's USHL Futures Draft. The Chicago Steel and Waterloo Black Hawks each had two selections in the first round of the Entry Draft, having acquired additional picks via trades.

The number of rounds for the 2010 USHL Entry Draft was based on how many rounds necessary to bring each club's player roster to 30. Teams first drafted to fill the active roster number of 23. Once every team reached that number, the Entry Draft extended to allow all teams to bring their roster to 30.

The selection order of the Entry Draft was based on the reverse order of the total points accumulated in the final 2009-10 regular season standings. As expansion clubs, Dubuque and Muskegon drafted before teams that qualified for the playoffs. This order was maintained through each round of the Entry Draft. The National Team Development Program's entry in the USHL does not participate in USHL drafts as they conduct a separate player selection process, which is held in cooperation with the League.
